Intermediate Location

Adding an intermediate location to your flight plan is optional.

Sometimes, an investigator may know that the aircraft will need to either land to refuel, or travel to an intermediate location (perhaps for other investigators) during the flight. In this web tool, an intermediate airport or intermediate lat/lng location can be added to your flight plan.

Add an Intermediate Location

To add a new intermediate location, click "Intermediate Location" in the map toolbar.

To the right of the map, sitename description and comments can be entered. In the "Location" section choose the "airport" or "not an airport" radio button depending on whether you want to add an airport or a lat/lng location.

Intermediate Airport

image The NASA G3 is based out of the Palmdale airport, in California.

When choosing an airport other than the Palmdale airport that NASA/Dryden operates, keep in mind that NASA/Dryden is responsible for aircraft operations. The G3 mission operations may require specific facilities for landings and takeoff, and should be consulted.

Use the search box and the drop-down menu to search for airports under different criteria. After searching, select specific results which appear below the search box or click the airport icons that appear in the map until you find the desired airport.

Click the "Add to Plan" button to add the intermediate airport to the flight plan. The icon for the intermediate airport you selected will stay on the map.

Intermediate Location (lat/lng)

Click once on the map or manually enter lat/lng coordinates to the right of the map. A intermediate location icon will appear on the map. Its location can be adjusted by dragging the icon in the map or changing the lat/lng coordinates.

"New" Button

If an intermediate location in the plan is currently selected and you want to make a new intermediate location, click "Intermediate Location" in the map toolbar or the "New" button to the right of the map.

Update an Intermediate Location

To update an intermediate location, it must be selected first. There are a couple ways to select an existing intermediate location: click the intermediate location icon in the map or click the intermediate location by name in the "Airport & Flight Lines" list below the map.

image

Once the desired intermediate location is selected, you can now change the information (sitename description, comments, etc) to the right of the map.

image

If any information is changed, the "Undo" and "Save" buttons will appear where the "Copy" and "New" buttons used to be. "Undo" will revert all your last changes and "Save" will save all those changes.

Change Intermediate Airport

To change the intermediate airport, follow the same steps that you took to select the airport. Select the intermediate airport that you want to change (refer to "Update an Intermediate Location" above). Once selected, use the search box which appears to the right of the map to search for the desired airport. When finished, click the "Save" button.

An intermediate airport can also be changed into an intermediate lat/lng location by clicking the radio button "not an airport" under the "Location" section. The new location will have the same lat/lng as the airport.

Change Intermediate Location (lat/lng)

To change the intermediate lat/lng location, drag the icon in the map or change the lat/lng coordinates to the right of the map.

Delete an Intermediate Location

To delete an intermediate location, it must be selected first (refer to "Update an Intermediate Location" above). There a couple ways to delete it: click the remove button (-) to the left of the intermediate location listed below the map or the "Delete" button to the right of the map.

Copy an Intermediate Location

To copy an intermediate location, it must be selected first (refer to "Update an Intermediate Location" above). There are a couple ways to copy it: click the copy button (+) to the right of the intermediate location listed below the map or the "Copy" button to the right of the map (which only appears if you have not made any changes to the current intermediate location).

A copy will appear just after the original intermediate location in the list below the map.
