NASA and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) are collaborating on a multi-frequency synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite, NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR), which is expected to launch in January 2022. In preparation, NASA and ISRO are collecting and analyzing L and S-band SAR imagery with ISRO's Airborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (ASAR) instrument which will be mounted on NASA's Gulfstream III aircraft. The antenna pod and navigation package from NASA UAVSAR radar system will be utilized. Phase 1 of the campaign is planned for December 2019, and flights will collect radar data and imagery over Alaska and Western USA. A number of Earth science research and application activities are of interest in this campaign; some research topics include glacier dynamics, hydrology, natural hazards, inundation, and permafrost.
